Plain language genomic test reports

Home Tools & resources Consent & patient support materials Plain language genomic test reports

Genomic testing results and associated laboratory reports are often complicated and difficult for families and non-genetic specialties to understand. To address this, the Acute Care Genomics flagship developed a set of plain language genomic test report templates to assist with the disclosure of ultra-rapid genomic testing results through the study.

Evaluation of family and genetic health professional opinions of the report has demonstrated overall high satisfaction with the readability and use of these resources.

Download the plain language family report templates below. The document includes templates for the following types of results:

  • de novo dominant
  • inherited autosomal dominant
  • autosomal recessive
  • X-linked inherited
  • X-linked de novo
  • mitochondrial
  • variant(s) of uncertain significance
  • uninformative result (i.e., no variants reported)

These can be modified to suit different testing contexts.
