Clinical genomic practice

Home Our project areas Clinical genomic practice

Summary

Australian Genomics is working towards the ethical, appropriate and evidence-based application of clinical genomics into health practice in Australia.  Importantly, we strive for nationally-consistent approaches that are informed by international best practice, and the needs of the clinical community – as well as the Australian public.  The projects below progress clinical genomic practice in Australia: improving the accessibility and utility of consent materials; developing recommendations to enhance the quality and standardisation of clinical (phenotype) information capture and sharing; exploring the possibility of an Australian genomic test directory; and promoting the use of nationally consistent genomic terminology.

An Australian genomic test directory

Genomic technology is advancing rapidly. This, along with increasing clinical and personal use of genomic...

Clinical and research consent for genomic testing

Patients who undergo genomic testing are legally required to provide ‘informed consent’. During this process,...

Phenotype data capture and sharing

Whole genome and exome sequencing have had a tremendous impact on diagnosing disease and identifying...

Nationally consistent genomic terminology

Clear and consistent terminology is key to communicating and understanding genomic information – for researchers,...
