Involvement & engagement

Home Our project areas Involvement & engagement

Summary

Australian Genomics is a national multidisciplinary collaboration. Our work is built on the enthusiasm and expertise of diagnosticians, genetic and other specialist clinicians, researchers, bioinformaticians, policy specialists and patient advocates.  We bring these networks together to provide an opportunity to collaborate and support translational activities.

International engagement and collaboration continue to be a priority of Australian Genomics. Participation in global genomic health initiatives produces international standards, developed with the input of Australians to meet local demands, and facilitates the sharing of tools and expertise – critical given the scale of investments supporting genomic health implementation globally.  Importantly, genomic health research and clinical translation will not be successful without the involvement and engagement of the community – health consumers themselves.  Through Involve Australia, we will implement a program to support active public involvement in genomic research. Involve Australia will also contribute to enhanced public awareness and acceptance of genomics and facilitate the ethical uptake of genomic technologies into healthcare.
