Needs assessment surveys

Home Tools & resources Workforce education Needs assessment surveys

Australian Genomics conducted many national studies to ascertain the current genomics practice and education needs across a range of health professions. The methods included interviews, focus groups and surveys.

We drew on the literature and interview data to develop needs assessment survey tools for a broad range of medical specialists and genetic specialists (clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors).

The surveys identify characteristics of those practising genomic medicine, perceptions of relevance and preparedness to practice across professions and subspecialties, and preferences for service delivery models and continuing education. The data are informing education and implementation strategies for genomic medicine.

The surveys have been adapted for use across many health professions both in Australia and internationally.
