Few genomics education programs are rigorously evaluated, which limits the evidence for the most effective strategies in different settings. Evaluation frameworks support rigorous approaches to evaluation, with clear outcomes and measures. Our theory- and empirically-informed framework supports genomics educators to develop an evaluation program that measures outcomes related to genomics workforce development and to identify factors that may influence implementation of genomic medicine.
Australian Genomics drew on existing literature and the program logic model for genomics education to draft an evaluation framework relevant to genomics education.
The framework has been published in the American Journal of Human Genetics alongside a scoping review of health professional genomics education needs assessments and evaluations, detailing the evaluation questions, outcomes and measures used.
